SUBSTRATA

Consumption, decay, life, death, birth, earth, water, sea, seafood, eggs, domesticity, daily life, the dinner table, ceramic vessels.

Through the media of film and ceramics I explore the tensions between consumption and decay; considering domestic practices, the inescapability of consumption, food and the portrayal of everyday life in reality TV.

The filmmaking consists of a series of performances cut with footage of domestic space, distorted photocopies, wild life and the landscape; there is a stream of consciousness narration. The film is translated into a small book that includes the transcript and photography. The vessels are made from local clays, dug while filming, they are finished with a clear glaze to hold them together and interact chemically with the oxides in the clays, creating different finishes.
